Brett F. Campbell
I have had a drumset attached to me for 60+ years, and have led my own private lessons and mentorship practice since the late 1980s, working with hundreds of individual students. Currently I work with students in the Boston area, as well as the UK, the EU, in Tokyo and Beijing.
I have a degree in Education Psychology from Columbia University Teacher's College in NYC, having worked with administrators and faculty at major universities in Beijing through Columbia's Beijing Center to implement a program of progressive education which fosters students' critical thinking, innovation and creativity.
With over 1,000 gigs behind me spanning the vast trove of American music and beyond, I remain a life-long student. As educator and mentor, my role is to educe, to draw out potential.
My teaching is based on guidance, providing the right info at the right time, while allowing individuals to forge their own path based on inquiry, mindfulness, genuine curiosity and engagement.
I seek to guide others in the realization of their own potential, in any endeavor; I believe that we alone are responsible for our own well-being, and for the contributions we make on our own behalf and for others.
I’ve recently completed an as yet to be published manuscript in this regard. Drummer’s Insight, The Meta Pursuit of Musicianship and Meaning reflects and shares discoveries made through decades of learning, teaching and improvising.
My work is my contribution so others may be empowered to take up this important journey in their own way: to create a life of purpose, and add value to our shared existence.
